How to Give Your Money-Making Blog a Personal Touch

Aside from delivering high quality content, a money making blog must also be appealing to the reader. For example, if you are interested in selling electronic gadgets, you may be inclined to create a drab little blog that simply gives a list of features for each product. Unfortunately, if readers were going to be swayed by these lits, they would already have made their purchase at a local department store. As a general rule of thumb, the advantage of a wider selection of merchandise online is often counteracted by poor presentation. That said, if you want to make a good impression with your money making blog, there is nothing quite like introducing a personal element to your posts.

1) “I” is an Important Word

Many people that attend college are often told that “I” is a dirty word when it comes to academic writing. In a similar way, news journalists will seldom write in the first person. While this may be of some use in these fields, passive voice and third person writing styles are virtually useless when it comes to making money with a blog. When people come to your blog, they expect the following:

a). Visitors expect to be reading about the thoughts, opinions, values, and experiences of a real person.

b). Readers do not want to know about the same information that can be found in other locations. They are coming to your blog to gain a different angle or perspective.

c). Blog readers expect you to define yourself and talk from personal experience. This is virtually impossible to accomplish if you use a passive voice.

2) Expressing Your Personality

No matter how shy or quiet you may be in real life, it is very important to let people know that you are a thinking, feeling, and rational human being. As a blogger, you can only convey elements of your personality via content, images, and videos. If you are able to get your reader to resonate with you emotionally, you will have a much better chance of selling the product. Even though you may have to work at presenting yourself clearly and directly, it will be of immense benefit. At the very least, you should practice creating short statuses or other written content on social networking sites such as Myspace, Ning, or Facebook. Once you know how to start attracting comments, or eliciting other behaviors, you will have a better idea of how to shape blog posts aimed at garnering sales.

3) Getting to Know Your Readers

When you write and publish a blog, it can be very difficult to figure out what people are thinking. Unfortunately, even if you use web statistics to gage traffic, they will not reveal anything about the conclusions reached by each viewer. Interestingly enough, what you see as a clear reason to buy a product may actually look very different to others. Even if you make a survey box available, readers are not likely to tell you what they think.

Before you even start blogging, it is very important to know whether or not your ideas and sales pitches will appeal to your audience. This can be accomplished by interacting via online forums and relevant networks. At the very least, you should spend at least one or two months engaged in these interactions before you try to craft your blog posts. Aside from learning more about your niche, you will also learn more about the leading voices, conflicts, and questions that can be used to add more flavor to your blog posts.

If you give it some thought, you blog posts must act like a customer service clerk in a department store. Each post will need to answer a question, and then direct the potential customer to a specific product. As a general rule of thumb, you will never want to buy something form a sales clerk that does not appear personally interested in each product. Therefore, as you develop your money making blog, expressing yourself as an individual represents one of the most elements when it comes to making and boosting sales.
